Our Values

At Footloose Montana we believe in the intrinsic value of individual wild animals and the need to protect them from human harm. We appreciate and respect wild animals for their intrinsic values and for their indispensable ecosystem services. Predators such as wolves are vital for the integrity and stability of ecosystems, and they have a positive effect on the health of other wildlife populations and public lands; we are true ‘beaver believers’ and greatly value these industrious environmental managers who capture water, reverse erosion and thus are invaluable for combatting wildfires and climate change.

In the 21st century, we cannot allow trapping to continue in our state. Wild animals are cognitively and emotionally intelligent kin, who suffer, feel pain, and mourn the loss of a family member. We must end Montana’s administered ongoing slaughter of wolves for recreation and trophies, and the bounty program—a backdoor operation that has been established by extreme legislators and is maintained by a special interest group. Trapping and bounty programs have no place in modern society. Science and ethics support the need for peaceful co-existence between humans and wild animals.

Take some time and learn more about our organization.  We will never stop fighting for wildlife and bringing an end to trapping.  We believe strongly that wolves and other carnivores belong in Montana and across the West or elsewhere and should not be hunted or trapped. Wild animals should be able to live their lives and thrive without being harmed by humans. Being true ecosystem managers, they should be celebrated for their important work in managing wild lands and other wildlife populations.
