URGENT ALERT-

ACT NOW: Tell Congress to Keep Gray Wolves Protected Under the ESA

April 17, 2025

This morning, the House Natural Resources Committee approved the “Pet and Livestock Protection Act,” a radical bill that would strip gray wolves of their Endangered Species Act protections and hand management over to state agencies—many of which have already shown they won’t hesitate to authorize brutal culls.

For more than half a century, wolves clawed their way back from the brink—hunted nearly to extinction in most of the lower 48, only to rebound in the Northern Rockies and Great Lakes thanks to federal safeguards. Now, Rep. Tom Tiffany (R‑WI‑7)—buoyed by unified Republican control of Congress and the White House—has cleared the bill’s first hurdle and is barreling toward a full House vote.

What’s at Stake?

  • Unchecked slaughter: Trapping, snaring, and mass shootings under state‑sanctioned “management” plans.
  • Ecosystem collapse: Loss of apex predators destabilizes forests and waterways.
  • Cultural loss: Wolves are woven into our shared heritage. Delisting them betrays the values that made the ESA one of America’s greatest recovery successes.
