What happened in the 2023 MT legislature?
Established in 2007, Footloose Montana is a small 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting all wildlife, including predator species. Based in Missoula, Montana, we fight to end the nightmare of trapping and other assaults on wildlife by raising public awareness through science-based education and bold advocacy.
The Executive Director will be located in Montana, preferably in Missoula, Helena, Bozeman, or Billings and will work remotely from home. During the state legislative session, presence in Helena is required.
GENERAL POSITION DESCRIPTION
We are excited to find an Executive Director who can take our organization to the next level, is passionate about protecting wildlife, and is thoroughly committed to our mission. Creative projects to educate the public about trapping and wildlife challenges are important. One of our primary goals is to continue to build support for Montana’s wildlife to achieve an end of trapping on public lands.
As the main representative of Footloose Montana, the Executive Director is responsible for program development, fundraising, special projects, administration, and maintaining excellent communication for the organization and with the Board of Directors. The ED works with the media, gaining interviews and getting press releases out. The ED directs the organization's strategic plan development and the achievement of its objectives and goals.
This position requires meetings and events that may take place on evenings or weekends, and travel throughout Montana will be required for presentations, training, tabling at events and attendance in Helena during the legislative sessions.

Skills and Experience:
Proven track record of success in a leadership position and managing staff, with a clear vision for programs in conjunction with stakeholders and a proven ability to implement that vision.
A record of developing and maintaining collaborations and partnerships.
Demonstrated positive history of leading teams to achieve excellence and efficiency with strength and compassion.
Demonstrated history of fundraising and ability to relate to individual, corporate and foundation funders effectively.
Excellent communicator and comfortable speaking in public and with diverse audiences.
Experience developing organizational or program messaging and marketing campaigns.
Experience in developing and overseeing budgets and ensuring the financial well-being of a program or organization.
Is a big-picture thinker with the ability to make great things happen and also with the judgment to know how to balance those efforts with organizational stability effectively.
Understands non-profit organizations, with knowledge of best practices and how to implement them.
Has a working knowledge of computer and smartphone utilization.
Comfortable with social media and creating content for various outlets.
Working knowledge of wildlife conservation/preservation is a plus.
Must be willing to submit to a background check.
